QATC Access Ag

A program providing students with a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE), job readiness for the agricultural workforce through vocational training, and entry to tertiary studies in agriculture.

The new QATC Access Ag program offers a senior high school curriculum fully combined with accredited agricultural training and work integrated learning opportunities to provide pathways for students to get real job-ready skills sooner, and build a solid foundation to move into further education and training.

QATC Access Ag is based primarily at Emerald Agricultural College in central Queensland. Our curriculum sees students also undertake some of their training at Longreach Pastoral College and QATC properties ‘Berrigurra’ and ‘Rosebank’, as well as with our valued industry partners across Queensland and northern Australia.

Curriculum Overview

Year 11 and 12 (QCE)

QATC Access Ag students are supported and supervised as they work towards their QCE, studying core subjects - Maths and English - via the Capricornia School of Distance Education as well as a choice of one other Board approved subject - either Ag Studies or Business Studies.

Vocational qualifications in Agriculture

A key advantage of QATC Access Ag  is that the curriculum fully incorporates two agricultural qualifications- AHC20116 Certificate II in Agriculture and AHC30116 Certificate III in Agriculture. Students will apply their school learning in a practical environment, becoming work-ready sooner and well placed to move into further vocational or tertiary studies.

CQUniversity Start Uni Now (SUN) units

Start Uni Now (SUN) is a CQUniversity initiative that allows students in Year 11 and 12 to study CQUniversity Bachelor of Agriculture units while still in high school. Our partnership with CQUniversity means that two SUN units are automatically integrated into the QATC Access Ag curriculum - one unit each year - providing credit recognition in the CQUniversity Bachelor of Agriculture.

Work integrated learning

Both Year 11 and Year 12 Access Ag students have the benefit of work integrated learning on college properties and with our industry partners during the school year. Work integrated learning gives students the opportunity to apply their skills across a variety of real world situations, improve their workplace communication skills, and make a great impression on potential future employers.
