Traineeships and Apprenticeships

Cement your knowledge with paid, on-the-job-practical training.

Undertaking a traineeship or apprenticeship qualification through Queensland Agricultural Training Colleges (QATC) allows you to complement your theoretical training with paid, on-the-job training.

At QATC, we offer a diverse range of full-time, part-time or school-based traineeships and apprenticeship qualifications where students complete a combination of online theory at work, plus on or off-site training with instructors as required.

Our courses are designed for both new entrants to the industry and experienced workers looking to upskill and gain a formal qualification.

Qualifications available for trainees include:

Traineeship  Length

 AHC20116 Certificate II in Agriculture

As an entry-level qualification, students gain a broad understanding of agriculture and rural industry practices.

1 year Full-time

2 years Part-time

 AHC20416 Certificate II in Horticulture

This qualification underpins a range of entry-level work functions within the horticultural industry, and is an excellent stepping stone to trade qualifications.

1 year Full-time

2 years Part-time

 AHC20316 Certificate II in Production Horticulture

An introductory qualification allowing students to explore a range of production horticulture options.

1 year Full-time

2 years Part-time

 AHC21016 Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management

This qualification enables graduates to carry out conservation and resource management tasks under general guidance and supervision. 

1 year Full-time

 AHC30116 Certificate III in Agriculture

Students have the chance to focus on a preferred agricultural sector, including: Cropping, Livestock, Mixed (Cropping & Livestock), Horticulture and Production Horticultural.

2 years Full-time

4 years Part-time

 AHC30616 Certificate III in Production Horticulture

Students and employers are able to focus the traineeship on a specific enterprise or take a general approach with units covering mixed horticultural enterprises.

 AHC31416 Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management

Students develop natural resource management skills which can be applied across a wide assortment of sectors, including environmental conservation, parks and wildlife, indigenous land management, and even pastoral enterprises.

Apprenticeship Length

 AMP30815 Certificate III in Meat Processing (Retail Butcher)

Students undertake the trade qualification training to be recognised as a retail butcher.

3 years


6 years



Where eligible, training may be funded by the Queensland Government under the User Choice program.
