2016 Intercol run and won… by LPC!

With Emerald Agricultural College (EAC) students arriving at Longreach Pastoral College (LPC) on a Friday afternoon, Intercol kicked off with the Amazing Race Challenge. No EAC-LPC rivalries yet though… students from both Colleges worked alongside each other in randomly assigned teams during the social activities.

A fun afternoon was followed by dinner with guest speaker, successful Longreach agri-businessman James Walker, who provided plenty of inspiration for the students including the take home message 'if you want something, don't be a passenger in life – go out and chase it'. Dinner was followed by a lively and witty debate amongst student teams, about employment in the pastoral industry.

The serious competition got underway on Saturday, with the following challenges:

  • Stockman's Skills Challenge – winner: LPC
  • Tractor Challenge Male – winner: LPC
  • Tractor Challenge Female – winner: LPC
  • Tyre Changing – winner: LPC
  • Sheep Counting – winner: LPC
  • Cattle Judging – winner: LPC
  • Fencing – winner: EAC
  • Chainsaws – winner: EAC
  • Motorbikes – winner: LPC
  • Swimming – winner: LPC

The final results… despite Emerald's valiant efforts, Longreach dominated on the day claiming victory in 8 of the 10 challenges.

Staff and students unwound after a day of intense competition to an evening of live music, delicious finger food prepared by the kitchen staff, and mocktails.

Following a presentation ceremony on Sunday morning the Emerald team hit the road for a safe journey home. Emerald are already talking 'comeback' and are determined to rise from the ashes in 2017 to reclaim the coveted Rabbit Trap!
