Funding available to advance business skills

Queensland farmers and managers of agricultural operations are urged to take the opportunity to advance their agribusiness skills at an innovative short course, a two-day Farm Business Management Skill Set workshop focusing on how to take control of farm businesses.

Queensland Agricultural Training Colleges (QATC) Senior Instructor Rod Morris said “for people looking for a way to advance their skills or future proof their business, this is a time-effective way to come up to speed on issues surrounding business planning, monitoring and reviewing business performance, farm business structures and relationships and risk management.”

“The course will provide valuable skills required for future proofing your business when discussing succession planning with stakeholders, understand how to monitor business performance enabling negotiations with potential lenders and assist with how to implement steps to maintain a profitable future.”

“The Farm Business Management Skill Set is heavily subsidised by the Queensland Government under the High Level Skills Funding program, making the cost of the workshop just $244 per farm owner, manager or worker who meets the eligibility criteria,” acknowledged Mr Morris.

Recent workshop attendee Hayley Loeskow of Bundaberg said “I found the recent QATC and ABDI business planning workshop to be very informative and easy to understand.  The workshop added to my level of comfort around understanding how to best manage our expanding, future business operations.  I now have the skills to be able to do this better.  I particularly found the open conversation and practical stories about how others have done things beneficial.”

Mr Morris said “A few spaces are left in the upcoming workshops being run around the state.”

“If you don't see a workshop date that suits you, please contact us to register your interest and we will try to schedule a course that is convenient to you.  Alternately, you can consider undertaking the course via the online learning option QATC has,” he said.
