Livestock Supply Chain making SmartMoves

Queensland and northern New South Wales livestock transporters, feedlot managers, livestock agents, processors will be amongst the first to attend an innovative series of skill set training SmartMoves, a three-day workshop focusing on handling and transporting cattle safely and ethically under today’s modern techniques and legislation.

Roger Desailly, Queensland Agricultural Training Colleges (QATC) Manager of Education and Training (Statewide), is strongly encouraging anyone who works within the livestock supply chain to take action now and attend a workshop to understand company and individual legal rights and industry standards and regulations.

“The new program we’ve developed is called SmartMoves, and is delivered via workshops, which are now scheduled throughout Queensland regional centres and northern New South Wales.  The workshops will provide the opportunity to understand animal welfare and regulatory obligations while moving livestock through the supply chain under the endorsed standards,” he said.

Mr Desailly cautioned that soon all parties in the transport chain, including those off-road, will be legally liable for any breach in Chain of Responsibility (CoR) under the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL).

“With heavy vehicle movements of livestock set to double in a decade and new laws affecting all businesses that operate or use heavy vehicle road transport, it is key to know how compliance with the law is changing in 2018.”

“All the dates for SmartMoves workshops are on the QATC website qatc.edu.au.  I urge people to register now for this essential livestock transport training, and a hands-on experience of modern techniques that have the potential to implement the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines Land Transport of Livestock best practices,” said Mr Desailly.

Under the recently signed partnership with AgForce, members will also receive a discounted rate to attend SmartMoves.

Bookings are essential, and to register, contact Queensland Agricultural Training Colleges on 1800 888 810, email enquiries@qatc.edu.au or visit our website www.qatc.edu.au.
