Our Information and Communication Techonology (ICT) team is committed to ensuring student's technological needs are met through implementation of features such as wireless networking, Microsoft Office 365 and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) access. The following ICT systems are in place:
Emerald Agricultural College has three air conditioned student classrooms, with all-in-one computers in two rooms and a laptop fleet in the third room to allow for flexible learning. Each classroom also has a dedicated printer for the students to use.
Longreach Pastoral College has a large air conditioned student classroom, with all-in-one computers. The classroom has a dedicated printer for the students to use as well as a second student printer in the student services area.
Students are automatically given a computer network account upon enrolment with QATC. This allows for the student to log in to computer terminals at our Colleges and training centres, as well as providing authenticated access to systems such as the Wireless Networking available in dorm rooms and educational spaces throughout the college grounds.
In general, the user name for the computer network account will be the student's unique Student Identification Number, as per their enrolment documentation and as printed on the student's identification card. The password will be advised upon the commencement of classes and can be changed by the student at any time.
Student passwords can be reset by Instructors, Duty Student Services Officers and the Administration Staff at the College if needed.
Residental students are given Microsoft Office 365 for Education accounts upon commencement at the college. The email address associated with this account (in the format email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org) is used for official communications from the college including academic information, class schedules as well as leave and student management communications from the REACH Boarding House system.
Account passwords are advised at the commencement of classes and can be changed by the student at any time. Management of Office 365 accounts is performed by the Queensland Agricultural Training Colleges ICT Unit and assistance can be sought from Instructors, Duty Student Services Officers and the Administration Staff at the college as needed. Students are welcome to contact the ICT Service Directly during office hours as well.
The student's Office 365 account comes with free access to the Microsoft Office 2016 software suite for Windows and Apple Mac, as well as the Office Apps for mobile devices. Students can access the download links and details for this software by logging in to their Office 365 account at https://portal.office.com.
The student dormitories, the classrooms, offices and nearby areas are all fully covered by wireless network access enabling students to connect to the QATC network. Once they have completed their initial network logon, they are able to connect their own devices such as smartphones, laptops, tablets and Apple devices to the network to get internet access.
REACH Boarding House System
The Reach Boarding House system is now being used at the campus to manage processes associated with residential students. This system's primary focus is to hold contact and personal details and manage leave for the students. There is a parents' side of this system that is used for leave approvals and to interact with the onsite duty staff.
Our internal ICT department, who provide support to staff, also provide direct support to the students via the students' instructors or the duty staff and are available during office hours. They also regularly visit the site to check on existing equipment and services as well as arranging for upgrades and new services. Information sessions can be arranged for student groups during these visits.
