University Pathways

At Queensland Agricultural Training Colleges, our focus is on practical, hands-on learning. Our goal is to ensure students graduating from any of our programs are ready to hit the ground running in the agricultural and pastoral sectors. For some people, however, further study at university is the next step, and we can assist with that too.

CQ University*

For students who wish to develop higher level, cutting edge knowledge and skills required for employment in tomorrow's technology driven Agribusiness, Cropping and Livestock industries, Queensland Agricultural Training Colleges and CQUniversity have partnered to develop and deliver a new Bachelor of Agriculture.

The first year of study in the Bachelor of Agriculture is delivered principally by Queensland Agricultural Training Colleges, with a focus on hands-on learning utilising our full-scale agricultural training facilities. Development of practical skills creates a strong foundation allowing students to move confidently into more academic study and industry placement during the remainder of the program. Years two and three of the degree are delivered by CQUniversity, with an option for fourth year honours also available.

In addition to a Bachelor of Agriculture graduates can also apply to be awarded an AHC50116 Diploma of Agriculture from Queensland Agricultural Training Colleges (due to having undertaken training for a range of practical skills during their first year).

This partnership with CQUniversity means that students who complete an AHC32810 Certificate III in Rural Operations with us can apply for direct entry into the CQUniversity Bachelor of Agriculture - a great opportunity for those wishing to advance from vocational training through to tertiary studies.

Entry into the CQUniversity Bachelor of Agriculture is offered at Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Emerald.

More information can be found in the CQUniversity Bachelor or Agriculture fact sheet (PDF, 847 KB).

Other Universities

Students wanting to attend the University of New England (UNE) can benefit from our articulation agreement with UNE. Specific units in our online AHC50110 Diploma of Agriculture or AHC51410 Diploma of Agribusiness Management can provide an alternative study pathway into the UNE Bachelor of Agrifood Systems, leading to career options in the food and fibre production industries.

For all other universities, credit transfer may also be available from our online AHC50116 Diploma of Agriculture or AHC51416 Diploma of Agribusiness Management. Students who successfully complete either qualification with us can apply for credit in agricultural degrees offered through other universities.

This potentially means less study time for you, and the added benefit of a practically-focused course before heading into more academic based study at university.

Students will need to approach their chosen university to discuss their own credit arrangements.

Complement your tertiary studies

We also offer short courses in areas such as farm machinery operation, chemical accreditation, vehicle washdown and weed control, which may assist in developing practical skills to complement university study.
